JNP-MIC1 is a Multi-Rate Ethernet Modular Interface Card (MIC) used in Juniper MX Series routers. It provides 12 × QSFP28 ports that can operate as 100GbE, 40GbE, or breakout into multiple 10GbE interfaces depending on configuration. This makes it highly flexible for different network designs, including core routing, aggregation, and high-capacity data transport.
The module supports high-performance traffic forwarding and is designed for service provider and enterprise backbone networks where scalability and bandwidth efficiency are critical. It can support MACsec variants (depending on model) for secure encrypted traffic transmission. The MIC integrates into compatible MPC line cards and allows operators to expand port density without changing the entire chassis. It also requires significant power and cooling due to its high-density design and is managed through Junos OS like other MX platform components.
